The WXMD upgrade will result in the WXMD pattern broadened out and power increased.  This 18-month project is anticipated to complete late November 2023. 

Turns out, we had to replace our transmitter anyway.  Our engineer then performed an FCC study and found that there was room to grow.  For a reasonable cost, we can increase our coverage (currently an ERP of 7000 Watts) to our permitted final ERP of 17000 watts.  That will allow us to cover Colonial Beach, VA and beyond, with a strong signal, plus reach further south along the Southern Maryland peninsula. This upgrade of signal strength will also help listeners better receive our signal within the current coverage, including the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.  

 
A listening couple initiated a $10K matching grant several months ago. Participation was encouraging.  Listeners local to WXMD as well as listeners from our other stations and internet helped out.   We just completed the goal of that grant, and now it is completely met! Thank you, for all who participated.

 
As we approach the final weeks of the project, late expenditures will be the surveyor cost (for antenna aiming and documentation), final electrical work, and the tower climbers. We will need roughly $30K more, to completion.
